Campus-Wide Door Lock Installation Project Begins This Month

Starting this month, Columbia Housing will begin a project to install new electronic access-controlled door locks across campus according to the schedule below. Depending on the building and the number of rooms, work may take up to a month. Students will be notified when work is scheduled to begin in their building and on their floor.

What to Expect:

  • You do not need to be present. Contractors will be escorted by Columbia Housing.
  • The team will knock and announce themselves before entering.
  • The installation team will only be performing work on the door.
  • The team will clean any debris from their work and will not leave until the door can be securely closed.
  • The new lock may require an initial tap to reactivate your access. If your access is denied, wait 60 seconds and tap again. If the problem persists, call the Hospitality Desk at 212-854-2779.

How to Prepare:

  • Remove all items from bedroom door and suite door (if applicable).
  • Move any items, including rugs, that are immediately within the opening of the door.

The new lock system provides an upgrade in performance and allows the Housing team to help troubleshoot issues remotely so students do not need to come to the Hartley Desk.
