  • Chair
  • Chest of drawers
  • Desk
  • Wardrobe or closet
  • Trashcan (3.5 gallon size)

Residents’ windows are covered with mini blinds or shades. Housing does not provide exterior window screens.

Columbia-Owned and Provided Furniture

Housing prohibits the removal or alteration of any University-owned and provided furniture, fixtures, appliances, and locks. Residents must keep all furnishings in their room, including bed frames and mattresses. Due to space limitations, Housing cannot provide alternate storage for any furniture. Residents will be charged if any furniture or provided items are found missing or damaged.

Personal/Non-Columbia Owned Furniture

Residents are permitted to bring personal or non-Columbia owned furniture into their rooms and/or suites if the furniture or personal items adhere to Fire Safety guidelines and are not considered prohibited by Columbia Housing. In addition, personal furniture must fit into the resident’s bedroom or suite and must be purchased new. Residents should take proper measurements of the room space prior to acquiring any new furniture. Residents are responsible for the removal of personal furniture from their room when they move out of the building, or they will be charged for its removal. Residential Life and/or Columbia Housing may amend these guidelines at any time and reserves the right to require the immediate removal of any personal furniture for any reason.

For any issues regarding Columbia-owned and provided furniture within rooms and/or suites, please place a Service Request or contact the Hartley Hospitality Desk at 212-854-2779.
