Streaming Television Service in the Residence Halls

Streaming service is available free-of-charge for TVs, desktops, laptops, and mobile devices and in residence hall lounges and fitness rooms.

Introduction

Streaming television service is available to undergraduate students living in Columbia Housing residence halls free of charge.

  • On personal devices, this service is provided in partnership with Columbia University Information Technology and is managed by their team. The streaming television provider is SpectrumPlease note: While the service is not available to most residents in Columbia Residential, it is available to undergraduate students who reside there.
  • In residence hall lounges and fitness rooms, this service is provided through Roku.

Spectrum U live TV can be streamed on your laptop, TV, or mobile device. 

Available Channels: A list of the channels available through the service is available on the CUIT website.

If you need help

  • If you experience any issues using the service, please check that your cable-ready TV is programmed for cable and not for antenna input. Some TVs have switches on the back, but most use the remote control to access "Main Menu" setup functions.
  • If you are still having problems such as partial channel reception, snow or static, contact the Hartley Hospitality Desk who will coordinate with CUIT to get your issue resolved.

In order to use Roku streaming in residence hall lounges and fitness rooms, students will need to connect their phone to the TV to use as a remote control. 

  1. Turn on the TV. The power button is on the bottom of the television.
  2. Download the Roku mobile app.

    2. Android
  3. Open the app and click on "Devices." Signing in is not required.
  4. Connect to the TV using your floor's IP address. 
    1. The floor IP address is posted at or near the TV. 
    2. On the "Devices" tab, select the "Need help" link, then click "Connect Manually." You will be prompted to enter the floor's unique IP address. Then, press "Connect."
  5. Use your device as the TV remote.
