Passage Mode

AllĀ room doors in upperclass suite-style residence halls are enabled with passage mode. Passage mode allows individual room door locks to lock or remain unlocked with the use of a resident's University ID card. Suite doors will still lock automatically. Please see the instructions below to enable or disable passage mode.

Locations where Passage Mode can be enabled are as follows:

  • Most Brownstones
  • East Campus
  • Ruggles
  • 47 Claremont
  • Hogan Hall
  • Watt (L and F Suite Rooms only)
  • Harmony (102-106 Suite Rooms only)

Enable Passage Mode

  1. Swipe or tap your room key (University ID) as you normally would to open the door. As you unlock the door, you will see a short green light blink.
  2. After the door has been unlocked, swipe or tap your room key a second time. You will see a second green light blink indicating that passage mode has been activated.

*If you see a red light, try again after 15 seconds. If you continue seeing a red light, please contact the 24-hour Hartley Hospitality Desk at 212-854-2779.

Disable Passage Mode

  1. Swipe or tap your room key (University ID) as you normally would to open the door. You should see a steady green light. If the green light only blinks but does not stay on, passage mode is already disabled.
  2. While the green light is still on, swipe or tap your room key a second time. You will see the green light blink and hear the door lock.

*If you see a red light, try again after 15 seconds. If you continue seeing a red light, please contact the 24-hour Hartley Hospitality Desk at 212-854-2779.
