During residence hall or campus emergency evacuations, residents may need to be placed temporarily with other Columbia Housing residents. To simplify the process of finding placements for evacuated residents, Columbia Housing encourages residents to register via the Housing Portal if they would like to participate as a host.
Hosts will be notified prior to being assigned a temporary resident.
For residence hall evacuations, hosts must be willing to share common space or room space in their suite or room with other Columbia Housing residents if one or more residence halls are evacuated and a resident is in need of temporary housing.
For campus evacuations, hosts must be willing to take one or more students to their home off-campus.
To Opt In/Out
At the time of an emergency, Columbia Housing will utilize the cell phone listed on the Housing Portal to reach you and verify your availability as a host. At any time during the Academic Year, you will be able to return to the Housing Portal to opt in or out as a host. Your preferences will only be valid for the Academic Year of the application you complete and will not rollover to the following Academic Year.
