Digital Screen Announcement Request


The posting of announcements to the digital screens throughout Columbia's residences is open to undergraduate student organizations that are recognized by any of the following:

  • InterGreek Council
  • Activities Board at Columbia
  • Student Governing Board
  • Community Impact
  • Club Sports Governing Board
  • Interschool Governing Board
  • Columbia College Student Council
  • Engineering Student Council

Terms and Conditions of Digital Screen Announcements

  • Any event or initiative promoted must be approved by your organization's advisor.
  • Any event hosted outside of Columbia’s residence halls must be open to all CUID students. Any event hosted within Columbia’s residence halls must be open at minimum to all residents of the building in which the event is held.  
  • Please complete the announcement request form below and allow 2 to 3 business days for confirmation that your announcement has been approved.
  • Announcements are batch uploaded on Fridays only. To be included in a Friday upload, announcements must be submitted no later than the preceding Monday at 12:00 noon.
  • Submissions must be accompanied by a start and end date (up to a one-week maximum). 
  • Announcements should not contain any vulgarity, nudity, provocative images, images of alcohol or other drugs, or violence.
  • Announcements should not contain copyrighted or trademarked materials without permission from their owners.
  • Housing reserves the right to make decisions about what is and is not appropriate for posting and when a post will appear in the announcement rotation.
  • Housing reserves the right to request edits to any files submitted.
  • Each announcement will appear on screen for approximately 7 seconds.

Best Practices for Digital Screen Announcement Design

  • All files should be delivered in a 16:9 (landscape) aspect ratio , jpeg format, with a resolution of at least 150 DPI
  • Ideally content should not exceed 35- 40 words
  • For short text or headlines, consider using all caps
  • For maximum legibility point size must be at least 14 pt.
  • Sans-serif typefaces like Helvetica or Arial are the easiest to read on screen
  • Consider strong contrast for maximum accessibility (e.g. dark background with white text)
