To-Do Upon Arrival

University ID Cards

Your University ID card is required to Check-In. The ID Center, located at 204 Kent Hall, is open limited hours during Check-In for students to replace lost ID cards. The only way to enter Kent Hall on Saturdays is through the East Asian Library. The ID Center reopens on the first day of classes from 9:00 a.m. - 6:00 p.m.

Guide to Living

The Guide to Living is a comprehensive online handbook for all residential students, maintained by Columbia Housing and Residential Life. All students are held accountable for all of the information found in the guide, including all policies and procedures outlined within it. Please read it carefully and refer back to it as you prepare for your arrival to Columbia and throughout the year. Specifically consult the Check-In procedures as you prepare for your arrival.

Additional important Columbia University policy information is available on the Essential Policies website.

Web Inventory Report

The Web Inventory Report (WIR) is used to assess your liability charges for any damages or missing items in your room that are attributable to you during the term of your occupancy. You will be emailed when the  Web Inventory Report is ready for review and must complete it within the time advertised.

Sustainability Note

  • As part of our commitment to environmental sustainability, the Guide to Living is exclusively available online. By not printing the Guide, Housing helps to save approximately 2.4 trees, 1,019 gallons of wastewater, and 222 lbs of net greenhouse gases.
