Transfer or exchange of assignment is at the discretion of Housing and is subject to the provisions of the Transfer Request and the Terms and Conditions of the Transfer, which may be obtained at the Hartley Hospitality Desk. Upon approval for transfer, the resident must move and return keys from the old room within the same day the new Occupancy Agreement is signed. If keys are not returned the same day, the resident will incur charges for both rooms until keys for the old room are returned to the Hospitality Desk in the Hartley lobby.
Columbia Housing reserves the right to change an assignment for any reason at its discretion. Any resident who occupies any space other than the assigned space without written authorization from one of the Housing offices will be subject to a $100 charge to cover the University's administrative expense, and will be required to return to the assigned space unless such authorization is obtained.
Academic year room transfer applications are accepted during the last two weeks of classes each term. They are processed in order of seniority and availability, and then by date of application. These transfer requests must be approved by the Residence Hall Director or the Associate Director to be accepted. Please have your RHD or AD's approval signatures before coming to the Hartley Hospitality Desk. Please visit Summer Transfer of Fall Assignment Requests or Room Transfer requests within the Guide to Living Room Assignments and Room Transfers section for more information about these processes.
