Personal/Non-Columbia Owned Furniture Policy

Columbia maintains a strict furniture policy to ensure fire safety and protect the cleanliness of the rooms. Additionally, personal furniture can contribute to pest problems. All rooms are furnished appropriately for its occupants with a desk, dresser, wardrobe and/or closet and bed.

When personal furniture is brought into the residence halls, it must fit into the bedroom or suite and must be purchased new. Columbia-owned furniture belonging to the suite or room will not be removed under any circumstances and must remain in the bedroom or suite.  Residents should take proper measurements of the room space prior to acquiring any new furniture.

Please keep in mind the following:

Residents are responsible to remove personal furniture from their room when they move out of the building or they will be charged for its removal. Residents will be charged for any personal furniture that causes pest problems. Residential Life and/or Columbia Housing may amend these guidelines at any time and reserves the right to require the immediate removal of any personal furniture for any reason.
